It is one of the South African government departments. It is also responsible for the development and promotion of tourism relating to South Africa.

The  Department of Tourism is inviting students to apply for their bursary for the 2023 academic year.

Fields Covered By The Department of Tourism Bursary

The following are the fields covered by the bursary programme.
The bursary will cover studies for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the following fields:

  • Business Management
  • Communication Science / Journalism / Public Relations
  • Computer Science / Information Technology
  • Development Studies
  • Economics
  • Internal Audit (including Forensic / IT Audit)
  • Risk Management
  • Statistics / Data Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Tourism Development / Tourism Management

Eligibility Criteria For The Department of Tourism Bursary

The following are the minimum requirements you must meet. If you do not meet the requirements your bursary application will not be considered.

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying full-time towards a Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification, in one of the fields listed above
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa

Documentation Required For The Department of Tourism Bursary
The following documents are required for the bursary programme. Submit clear copies of the following documentation along with your bursary application.  If you do not submit the documents your application will not be considered.
  • ID document
  • Matric certificate
  • Most recent academic records/ transcripts
  • Proof of registration at a tertiary institution
  • Proof of parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
  • Motivational letter supporting your application

Please Note:To only submit copies of the following documentation, certified copies will be required from applicants who have been considered.

Closing Date For The Department of Tourism Bursary

The closing date for the bursary programme is on 28 October. If you do not submit your application before the closing date your application will not be considered.  Apply as soon as you can and good luck.
