ABOUT THE FIELDS COVERED BY THE HERIBERT NASCH BURSARY PROGRAMME

The Heribert Nasch Foundation is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within ANY field, towards an Undergraduate degree, Master’s degrees or a second degree. The bursary will fund studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) or the Durban University of Technology (DUT)

The Heribert Nasch Bursary Programme, founded by the Nasch family from Germany, is a groundbreaking effort aimed at empowering academically talented students from disadvantaged communities.

So far, the initiative has provided sponsorship to 105 students, enabling them to overcome financial obstacles and pursue their educational goals. By offering extensive financial assistance and mentorship, the programme serves as a critical support system for individuals with exceptional potential but limited resources.

SELECTION PROCESS

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: full tuition fees, accommodation, and meals. Students will also receive cover for textbooks, laptops, and a monthly allowance of R1 000 to assist with personal expenses.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE HERIBERT NASCH BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must have completed Matric with a minimum final exam average of 70%
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards an Undergraduate degree/ Master’s degrees or a second degree
  • You must be enrolled to study at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) or the Durban University of Technology (DUT)
  • You must have a household income of less than R90 000 per annum
  • You must be committed to residing in the accommodation provided by the foundation, which allows for close mentoring and evaluation

Students will be required to submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with their application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Qualifications completed (certified copy)
  • Parents/ guardians or own proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of SASSA grant or pension if applicable)
  • Letter of recommendation from a principal, priest, or community leader
  • Motivational letter to support your application
