Canyon Coal Bursary For Khanye Colliery 2022




Canyon Coal is a coal exploration, mining and processing company. It uses collieries and processing plants in Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces. It prides itself on the fact that it is positively contributing to the development and transformation of the South African society. Canyon’s current operations comprise the Hakhano, Khanye, Phalanndwa, and Ukufisa Collieries. Hakhano is located in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, and produces bituminous coal for the export market. Phalanndwa Colliery and Phalanndwa Extension, in Delmas, Mpumalanga, Ukufisa Colliery, in Springs, Gauteng, and Khanye Colliery, in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng all produce a bituminous product that is used for local consumption and export markets. In addition to having operational mines, Canyon also has an active exploration portfolio that aims to unlock potential resources.

How is it awarded

  •  Bursaries are awarded according to academic merit. 
  •  Final selections are made by a Canyon Coal internal committee, brought together to make the choices. 
 

Eligibility Criteria 

  • ONLY citizens of the Republic of South Africa. 
  • ONLY applicants who are already studying for an approved qualification at tertiary institution in South Africa, which is registered & accredited with the Council for Higher Education (CHE). 
 

Minimum requirements 

  • Applicants already at tertiary institutions must have a good academic record with a minimum of 65% pass in all courses/modules/subjects written to date. 
  • A South African identity document
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Provisional acceptance from a university 

They will give preference to:

  • previously disadvantaged individuals from the Bronkhorspruit area
  • financially disadvantaged individuals
  • Applicants who have applied to study at the local tertiary institutions 
  • People with disabilities and females
