It was established in the year 1923 by the South African government, as the countries Electricity Supply Commission (ESCOM). The South African electricity public utility is now known as Eskom and is the biggest electricity producer in Africa. It is in the top 7 global utilities according to generation capacity.
About The Eskom Bursary Programme
They are inviting students to apply for bursary funding for the 2022 academic year.
Fields Covered By The Eskom Bursary
The following field is covered by the by the bursary programme:
- Electrical Engineering
The bursaries are going to be awarded for the following qualifications:
- University students: 50 bursaries will be awarded for studies towards an Electrical Engineering (Light Current or Heavy Current) (BEng / BSc) qualification
- University of Technology students: 35 bursaries will be awarded for studies towards an Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current or Light Current) (National Diploma) qualification
Eligibility Criteria For The Eskom Bursary Programme
The minimum requirements for the bursary programme are as follows, however if you do not meet the requirements your application will not be considered.
University Students:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric in 2021
- You must NOT be currently studying at a tertiary institution
- You must have received a conditional admission offer to study towards a BEng or BSc degree in Electrical Engineering, in 2022
- You must have received a conditional admission offer to study at a recognised University in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 4 for English in Matric final results
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 5 for Pure Mathematics in Matric final results
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 5 for Pure Physical Science in Matric final results
- You must NOT be in receipt of any other bursary award
- Candidates with disabilities are encouraged to apply
- Preference may be given to applicants from underrepresented designated groups (in line with Eskom’s employment equity plan and its employment equity goals and targets)
University of Technology students:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric in 2021
- You must NOT be currently studying at a tertiary institution
- You must have received a conditional admission offer to study towards a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, in 2022
- You must have received a conditional admission offer to study at a recognised University of Technology in South Africa
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 4 for English in Matric final results
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 4 for Pure Mathematics in Matric final results
- You must have achieved a minimum of level 4 for Pure Physical Science in Matric final results
- You must NOT be in receipt of any other bursary award

Documents Required For The Eskom Bursary Programme
The following documents are required for the bursary programme. If you do not submit all the required documents, your application will not be considered.
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- University or University of Technology proof of conditional acceptance (on institutions letterhead)
