About Canon Collins Trust and RMTF
The Canon Collins Trust, established in 1981, has been dedicated to supporting students from southern African countries through various scholarship programs. Over 4,000 scholars from 14 countries have benefited from these initiatives. The Trust offers scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in South Africa, the UK, Ireland, and Malawi. The Ros Moger and Terry Furlong Memorial Fund (RMTF) honors two inspirational figures in education, raising funds since 2001 to provide scholarships to deserving students.
About the Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship Program
Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Ros Moger and Terry Furlong (RMTF) group, invites students to apply for scholarship funding for the 2025 academic year. This scholarship supports postgraduate studies (Masters or PhD) in South Africa for students from Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini, and Zambia.
Fields of Study Covered by the Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship Program
The scholarship program covers the following fields of study:
- Justice (including Climate Justice, Law, Economics, and Politics)
- Education Policy and Practice
- Humanities (including Literature, History, Anthropology, and the Arts)
Eligibility Criteria for the Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship Program
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the scholarship program:
- Be a national of, or have refugee status in, one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Eswatini, Zambia.
- Be normally resident in one of the above countries.
- Hold a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division, or equivalent) or be about to graduate in the year of application.
- Be studying or applying to study within the specified fields at postgraduate level (Masters or PhD).
- Be studying or intending to study on a full-time or part-time basis (distance learning applications are also considered).
- Be studying or applying to study at a university in South Africa.
Documents Required for the Canon Collins RMTF Scholarship Program
Applicants must submit the following documents with their application:
- Certified copy of ID document, birth certificate, passport, or driver’s license.
- Proof of refugee status, if applicable.
- Certified copy of degree certificates, if available.
- Certified copy of academic transcripts.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Two latest payslips, if employed.
- PhD proposal, if applicable.
Shortlisted candidates must also submit two letters of reference: one from the current or most recent academic supervisor, and one from an employer if employed, or one from voluntary work if never employed, or two academic references.
