ISFAP Bursary Funding

About Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP)
To provide equal opportunities for higher education to poor and middle-class South African students, ISFAP was established. This funding model is designed to be sustainable while supporting students in achieving their academic goals and earning qualifications in Occupations of High Demand (OHDs). Research into South Africa’s OHDs has revealed a critical need for professionals such as accountants, actuaries, engineers, artisans, doctors, and pharmacists.

These fields are vital for driving South Africa’s economic growth and fostering a more equitable society. ISFAP represents a collaborative effort between the South African government and private sector stakeholders, striving to reduce dropout rates in higher education, enhance graduates’ employment prospects, and strengthen the country’s skills base.

The bursaries cover the following expenses:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Study materials
  • Cash allowance

Additionally, the students will also receive the following:

  • Life skills training
  • Social support
  • Medical support
  • Academic support that may include academic development, tutorials, and extended programmes
  • Mentoring for their first year
  • Tracking their academic performance through the online student platform
  • Access to committed programme managers

ISFAP Bursary Funding Requirments and Eligibility 

Before applying for the bursaries, interested applicants must first satisfy the following requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of South Africa
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have a good academic record
  • Must have gotten accepted to study at one of the tertiary institutes mentioned above
  • Must have gotten accepted to study towards one of the qualifications mentioned above – only for first-year undergraduate studies.
  • Will be starting their first degree in 2024
  • The applicant’s family household income shouldn’t be more than R600 000 per year.

How to Apply and Application Details

Interested applicants will need to apply online: ISFAP Bursary Funding 2024

Students who pass the bursary “pre-application” stage, will receive an email requesting them to submit their supporting documentation. Make sure to submit all the required supporting documents. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification.

  • A certified copy of an ID document.
  • A certified copy of your matric certificate or Matric latest results
  • Proof of registration at one of these above institutions (on tertiary letterhead)
  • ISFAP Funding Application Consent Form (.pdf) – completed by the applicant and household contributors.
  • Proof of household proof of income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of any grants or pension if applicable)
  • Confirmation that you are not in receipt of any other funding
